DFWGames @A-kon Staff Guidelines
By dahlsim @ 3:02 PM :: 66 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Events, Commentary, A-Kon Documents

Ok! Since we are now in the home stretch before the event starts, I just want to post this infomation (some parts have been updated)

General Duties

Provide customer service and courteous whenever possible.
Work as a team within your shift and the staff in general
Show up at least 15 minutes before your shift starts
Wear your staff T-shirt while you are on shift unless you have special permission to wear cosplay.
Do not skip on your shift unless you are excused by management to do so
Do have fun in the room if everything is under control

Main Registration Duties
Gather registration information for free membership to DFWGames.com
Direct tournament players to the tournament registration table, or accept tournament entries if neccessary
Provide a customer service /help point for general questions that are not tournament specific.
Control of the check-in/check-out of all assets in the room and the hotel room keys.
Announce special events or public situations to the room (Example: Tournament sign up availability, help to locate lost child, etc.)

Tournament Registration Duties
Accept tournament registrations within the allocated time period only!
Relay any information provided by the Game Leader to the player
Once registration is complete, create bracket/seeding information via TIO for the Game Leader
Secure cash register and other equipment before end of shift (Take it to the secure area if neccessary)

Security Duties
Provide security for the equipment and people in the gameroom
If room gets too crowded, stop people at the door until the room is back to a normal level
Check bags from all con-goers safely, be wary of sharp objects in bags, a good once over with your eyes is sufficent.
If you notice hardware missing, inform the Shift Leader or management immediately
Kindly warn and/or escort unruly patrons of bad behavior, bad smell, etc.
Help the Shift Leader in doing an inventory of the room assets 30 min before shift ends.

Media Duties
Accept entries into Video Game Cosplay contest within allocated time period
Do updates on Coveritlive of events that are happening on the room
Help record special matches with provided equipment if neccessary
Assist Security in watching the room.

Shift Leader
Be the "Go-To" person for general questions regarding the console room
Conduct periodic check of assets in the room and in the secure area
Provide the decision to temporarily lock down the room in case of overcrowding, security breach, etc.
From the core staff prespective, you are the person that is allowed to handle the games in the consoles , place them in or out of the secure case, and update the spreadsheet.
Do a asset check of all equipment on the floor in use 30 min before shift ends
Coordinate with Game Leaders that are running tournament of any changes in equipement that may be needed

Tournament Aid
Assist the Game Lead in running the specific tournament
Prepare the tournament stations for the tournament.
Coordinate with Security with the intergrity of the room
When tournament is complete, revert stations back to normal

Floater
Be familiar with all positions and be able to fill in as neccesary

Crash Space
Everyone that I have entered on my spreadsheet has been allocated in a crash space. Go to the A-kon 21 Mastersheet and look at the "Contact Information" tab for room assignment.  IT WILL BE VERY CRAMPED,but it is the best we can do with the number of people we have. And before you ask, Room 1 and 4 already has a number of people there, so only a couple of people we assigned there.
The room keys will be controlled at main registration desk in the game room. You must check out the key for the room you are assigned to there, and when you are done, bring it promptly back to the room. If you need to sleep or will be in there for a while, have a fellow staff member check the key back for you.
Make sure that you are take showers and perform good hygeine when you are in the room.
Once again, let me empahize: crash space is a PRIVILEDGE, NOT A RIGHT. PLEASE don't do anything that will get you kicked out of the room!!

Parking
In a word, expensive. The closer you are to the hotels the higher the cost can be. There are a few places that will charge 5$ per 12 hour period, and, on Sunday, parking is free when you are by a parking meter on the street, bringing at least $25 will help you with parking.
Food
There is a number of fast food resturants that will be open that weekend, but not late night. Bring enough money to make sure you can eat comfortably
